Family cybersecurity, made practical

Protect what matters most.

You shouldn't have to be a cybersecurity expert to protect your family online. Holdfast Security helps parents understand the threats, choose the right safeguards, and build practical protection that grows with their family.

The problem

Protecting a family online has become surprisingly complicated.

Children learn, play, communicate, and build relationships on connected devices. Parents manage work, finances, healthcare, and family information online. Aging parents rely on the same digital systems while being deliberately targeted by increasingly convincing scams.

Meanwhile, families are navigating social media, messaging apps, online gaming, explicit content, cyberbullying, strangers, identity theft, malicious links, privacy issues, location sharing, account compromise, AI-generated content, and fraudulent calls and messages.

Most families don't have the time—or reason—to become experts in all of it. That's exactly the gap Holdfast Security is built to close.

The technology keeps changing

A protection strategy that worked two years ago may not fit today's apps, devices, platforms, and online behavior. Parents are being asked to keep up with an environment that changes constantly.

Every device is different

Phones, tablets, computers, consoles, smart TVs, school devices, apps, and home networks all have different controls. Protection rarely lives in one place.

Built-in controls have limits

Apple, Google, Microsoft, gaming platforms, internet providers, and individual apps all protect different things. The hard part is understanding where one layer ends and another must begin.

Children grow up

The right controls for a six-year-old are not the right controls for a sixteen-year-old. Good family security has to evolve from guardrails toward education and independent judgment.

Technology is only part of the answer

Filters are useful, but no product replaces communication, family expectations, education, and helping children learn to make good decisions when no filter is present.

The threat extends beyond children

Parents and grandparents face phishing, financial fraud, account takeovers, identity theft, malicious links, and increasingly convincing AI-assisted impersonation scams.

This is difficult because it is a technology problem, a security problem, and a parenting problem at the same time. Holdfast Security helps families put those pieces together.
Our approach

A practical, layered approach to family security.

There is no single app, router, parental control, or security product that solves every online safety problem. Good security works in layers—and those layers should fit the family using them.

01 / PROTECT

Put guardrails in place.

Use practical technical safeguards to reduce exposure to harmful content, malicious websites, account compromise, and other avoidable risks.

02 / UNDERSTAND

Know what matters.

Learn which threats deserve your attention, how they actually work, and which frightening cybersecurity headlines you can safely ignore.

03 / PREPARE

Have a plan before trouble.

Set sensible device rules, account protections, recovery options, family expectations, and a response plan before something goes wrong.

04 / ADAPT

Grow with your family.

Update your approach as children become more independent, technology changes, and your family's needs evolve.

Every family is different. Holdfast Security can help whether you need one conversation, a complete family protection strategy, or ongoing managed protection.
Managed internet content filtering

Protection shouldn't stop working because an app updated or a setting changed.

Internet filtering sounds simple until you try to manage it across an entire household. Homes can contain dozens of connected devices. Children move between Wi-Fi and cellular data. Devices update. New apps appear. DNS settings change. Parental controls behave differently on different operating systems. School devices may have restrictions parents can't modify.

Even technically capable parents often discover gaps they didn't know existed.

Holdfast Security offers managed family internet content filtering designed to make these protections easier to deploy, understand, and maintain.

Block pornography and sexually explicit websites
Restrict known malicious and dangerous websites
Apply age-appropriate filtering strategies
Control access to selected categories of content
Review home-network protections
Understand mobile-device limitations
Review parental-control configuration
Adjust protections as children grow
Technology should support the relationship between parents and children—not replace it.

Filtering creates useful guardrails, especially for younger children. But children eventually need the judgment to navigate the internet independently. We help you build both.

Talk About Internet Protection
Family protection consulting

Cybersecurity advice built around your actual family—not a generic checklist.

Most cybersecurity advice is written for businesses or technology professionals. Families are usually left with disconnected recommendations like “use strong passwords,” “turn on parental controls,” and “watch out for scams.”

Those recommendations are directionally right. They just don't answer the questions parents actually have.

What should we actually do first?

How restrictive should we be?

What should we block—and what should we teach?

Which tools fit our devices and family?

What should our children and aging parents know?

Holdfast Security turns those questions into a practical family security plan.

Children's online safety

Gaming, social media, messaging, strangers, explicit content, cyberbullying, privacy, and oversharing.

Device & account security

Passwords, MFA, account recovery, software updates, backups, device settings, and the basics that stop a lot of real-world problems.

Modern scams & fraud

Phishing, impersonation, financial scams, social engineering, malicious links, and AI-enabled deception.

Aging parent protection

Reduce scam and account-compromise risk while preserving independence and dignity.

You do not need the same security program as a Fortune 500 company.

But the principles those companies use—layers of protection, strong authentication, awareness, preparation, and response—translate remarkably well into protecting a family.

Every stage of family life

Different families need different solutions.

Tell us the problem you're trying to solve. We'll help determine the right combination of technology, education, and practical safeguards.

01 / YOUNG CHILDREN

Build good habits early.

Introducing tablets, streaming, games, or internet access creates an opportunity to establish sensible expectations and strong guardrails from the start.

02 / TWEENS & TEENS

Shift from control to judgment.

As children become more independent, technology alone becomes less effective. Security increasingly depends on trust, education, communication, and carefully chosen controls.

03 / PARENTS

Protect the household's digital core.

Parents themselves are attractive targets for credential theft, identity fraud, malicious email, account compromise, and privacy violations.

04 / AGING PARENTS

Protect without taking over.

Create sensible safeguards against scams, fraud, and account theft while allowing aging family members to keep using technology independently.

Whether you need help protecting one child, securing an entire household, helping an aging parent, or simply figuring out where your biggest risks are, Holdfast Security can build a solution around the need.
Education, not fear

The internet isn't the enemy.

Technology gives our children extraordinary opportunities to learn, create, communicate, and explore. Family cybersecurity should not make parents afraid of the internet. It should help them understand it.

Online safety advice often falls into two extremes: technology is treated as harmless, or every new app is presented as a crisis. Neither approach is particularly useful.

Holdfast Security focuses on realistic risk: what deserves attention, what protections actually work, where technology has limits, and how parents can have better conversations about online life.

Better technology helps. Better-informed families help even more. That is the Holdfast approach.
Public speaking

Cybersecurity education for parents, schools, churches & community groups.

Many families are asking the same questions. Holdfast Security turns complex cybersecurity topics into clear, practical guidance for non-technical audiences.

Presentations are built to leave people better informed and better prepared—not simply more frightened. Each talk can be tailored to the age of the children, concerns of the organization, and time available.

About Holdfast Security

Cybersecurity professional. Technology consultant. Husband. Dad.

CISSP20+ years experienceCybersecurity engineerDad of two

Holdfast Security grew from a simple realization: families are facing many of the same categories of cybersecurity problems I've spent my career helping organizations solve—but most families don't have a security team they can call.

I've worked as a technology and security consultant for more than 20 years, helping people and organizations understand technology, solve difficult problems, and reduce risk. I am a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and currently work as an engineer for one of the world's largest cybersecurity companies, helping protect businesses against the threat of cybercrime.

But the reason Holdfast Security exists is much more personal: I'm a husband, I've been married for 10 years, and I'm the dad of two boys.

I wrestle with the same questions other parents do. When should my children have access to certain technology? What should I block? What should I teach instead of block? How do I protect them without trying to monitor every moment of their lives? Which risks are real, and which are exaggerated? How do I prepare them to eventually make these decisions without me?

My professional background gives me the tools to understand the technology and the threats. Being a parent reminds me that the technology is only part of the solution.

My goal is simple: help families become safer, smarter, and more confident in an increasingly connected world.
